Viettel Database Service (vDBS) is a PaaS service providing companies with databases in the cloud with many choices of Database Management Systems (DBMS) such as as Relational (MySQL,MariaDB, PostgreSQL,…) and NoSQL (Redis, MongoDB,…), with high availability, saving time & effort for database configuration and operations

Inherited the advantages of Viettel IDC’s highly robust and stable Public Cloud infrastructure, vDBS allows Customers to deploy and scale their databases on Cloud in a timely and automated manner without limitation. Our service also meets many of the Cloud industry standards and achieved many related certifications, both local (Cloud for Government) and global (ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management System, ISO 27001:2013 – Information Technology System Management, ISO 27017:2015 – Information technology-Security techniques-Code of practice for information security controls for cloud services, etc).

vDBS service flexibly supports a variety of connection models, depending on customer needs. Basically, there are two main connection models: Public and Private connections.

– For Private connection model: Database is deployed inside a VPC Network. Only resources within this VPC can access the Database via Private IP.

– For Public connection model: The database will be provided with an additional Elastic IP allowing access from outside the VPC Network.

To use vDBS service with public connection to transmit data, customers need to configure the Database to be safely accessible from the Internet. Steps:

Step 1:Initialize Database Instance with Public connection model

During the Database initialization process, in the “Public Access” section, select Yes to ensure the Database can be accessed from the Internet.

After successful initialization, the Database Instance will be automatically assigned an Elastic IP address. Customers use this IP address to make public connections from the Internet.

Step 2:Configure Security for Database Instance

Set up Security Group: Adjust the Security Group of the Database to allow connections from necessary IPs. Customers should:

– Only open the Database port (usually port 3306 for MySQL, 5432 for PostgreSQL,…).

– Restrict Source IP to only trusted or necessary IP addresses to enhance security.

Step 3:Test and Connect

After configuration, use Elastic IP (Public Address) to connect to the correct port of the Database.

Viettel Database Service (hereinafter referred to as vDBS) of Viettel IDC provides 03 options for redundancy levels appropriate to each user’s needs as follows:

  • Standalone (01 Node): Low level of redundancy, suitable for Dev/Test environment
  • Active/Standby (Replication ≥ 02 Nodes): Average level of redundancy, suitable for Production environments that need high fault tolerance. When 01 Node is “down”, the service can switch to Node standby for about 10-30 seconds
  • Active/Active (Clustering ≥ 03 Nodes): Highest level of redundancy, service is almost always available without interruption

Currently, Viettel IDC is providing most types of Database Management Systems (DBMS) with commonly used versions. Includes:

  • MySQL: includes 02 versions 5.7 and 8.0
  • MariaDB: includes 02 versions 10.5 and 10.6
  • Redis: includes 02 versions 6.2.7 and 6.0.9
  • PostgreSQL: includes 02 versions 12.0 and 15.0
  • Cassandra: includes 02 versions 3.11.16 and 4.1.3
  • MongoDB: includes version 6.0

Viettel IDC will continuously update new DBMS types as well as corresponding new versions to best meet the diverse needs of customers

Connection models

Enterprises apply vDBS in the form of deploying independent information system services and connecting to cloud databases through Access Port quickly and easily, cutting large investment costs for the private network layer.

Enterprises apply vDBS in the form of privately deploying information system services in the same VPC Network environment, combined development on Viettel Open Private Cloud (vOPC), Viettel Open Kubernetes Service (vOKS), Viettel Cloud Server (vCS) to connect to the cloud database. From there, increase the security and performance of the system.
